Nice bunch of students you have there!
I knew Chazz right out of the gate, but it took me a little bit for the other 2.
And sometime I'll have to give you a copy of a cassette I have of Jason as a 19 year-old -- he was burning even then!

who is Chazz? Either I've had a total brain meltdown, or I am just not familiar with him like I am the other two...

Chazz | ||

....appears to be the alter-ego of Gary Novak....smoking mofo of a player, once with Chick and at another time with Alannis (or was it Tori?). His dad is a killer jazz pianist here in Chicago.

Hey BW,
Loving the new DVD by the way. I'm very well, thanks for asking. As an update (for those who care, for those who don't, you've been warned) 1) I am (hopefully) officially done with school in like 2 weeks. Assuming I pass this last class and my comprehensive exams, I will have a Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. 2) I'm on a job search after doing Corporate Training & Development for the last year for a major insurance firm. Unfortunately they are dissolving our entire department. But so far the search is going very well and I hope to have several offers in the next few weeks. 3) I've moved in with my girlfriend (of nearly a year) back in September (Neil M, you may know eachother from professional interactions). 4) I will hopefully be engaged within the next few weeks to said girlfriend 5) I have room enough to set my kit up in the house, so I have been slowly getting back into the groove. I think that sums it up. Life is pretty darn good |

I'd be a lucky man to have such a talented editor as my companion.
Unfortunately I am stuck with an ex-Executive Producer. <img src="http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/Gif/grover2.gif"

The students section is pretty funny :) I kinda knew who Igwie & Jason were but Chaz... I wasnt sure who he was (pardon my ignorance)... I was guessing
Gary Novak. :)

I didn't know what Gary Novak looked like, but when I saw Yngwie I told my wife "Wow, he could be Thomas Lang's twin!", and I couldn't
see Weckl's face well enough (thanks to his sweet Audi hat)

yes it is. Very Horace silver - I was sick (you know) that day of the (let's make a movie in one day) shoot. VERY sick. So I was so cooked when we got to
shooting the students - they were last. I was done, but Chaz's thing was incredible - truly.

Funny! | ||

I just bought the DVD this weekend. For the first half of the video I kept thinking, "What's with the audience? It looks like the witness protection
program!" Then I got to the students section and realized what was up. Funny!
I'm glad I hadn't read this thread beforehand. It would have spoiled the joke. I'm really enjoying the DVD by the way! I really liked the review of the tunes on the CD. I've been listening to that CD quite a bit over the last several weeks. It seemed like I listened to it a bit when it came out and then "rediscovered" it a few weeks ago. It's been great to get a little more insight into your approach to those tunes. |

I just got the DVD and really dig it. Billy, you really have a talent for de-mystifying stuff. I have always been reluctant to tackle jazz since I'm not
a highly technical guy, but you make it seem attainable. As well as being a killer player, you are also gifted with the ability to teach. Well done.
I also was trippin' over the "students" you had on the shoot. I didn't recognize Novak, though he looked familiar, but when Yngwie showed up with all his talk of drums needing to be loud and his "nine year old" jazz cymbal beat, and the way you were just going along with it, I figured this guy had to be famous or else you were being really, really nice about his views. It was great! I thought he looked like Lang but I wasn't sure till "Jason" showed up. I kinda recognized Weckl's siggy sticks but when you guys started playing on the table it was obvious that these weren't just "students". I watched the credits to see if I would see Lang and Weckl listed, but I didn't. So..........I'm glad I read this thread also, before I jumped in with my observations. Again, Billy, great video, and I will be anxiously awaiting your next. |

Thanks Hasher! I really and truly believe in the teachings of this DVD. I've seen way too many drummers with serious limitations holding them back (and
they don't know what to do to improve). I have high hopes that this helps them move forward!
