What is Luxury to you?
I'm spending all day hanging out with my daughter. It's sunny out and I have a full pot of coffee. I just realized THIS is luxury!

Luxury is sleeping for 6 hours in a row, especially if it's dark when you do it.

is attending the middle-school now, and it is becoming a little harder now to think parenting as luxury!
Mine? Eating Papaya's cheese-steak sandwich with a cold Blue Moon after the gig, watching late night talk shows. |

Family and friends within reach and all healthy and happy. Being relaxed (stress is a killer)....next to a warm fire in the winter, and lounging on the beach in the summer. Hope all is well with everyone here. |

definitely all about simple pleasures and time with people i care about--or time for myself.
a month or so back, i went a little north and watched a meteor shower from atop a small mountain. it was quiet and breezy and beautiful and so peaceful. gave me a real sense of contentment [kinda helped that i was cuddled with a guy i dig]. anytime i'm in nature or around horses/dogs, i'm pretty dang happy. they're beautiful, intelligent, playful creatures that i feel connected to. on a more indulgent front, i love going out for great food and wine. my girlfriend and i get together 2 or 3 times a month for tapas and vino. i love her company coz she loves to eat, is really funny and has a ridiculously loud laugh. it's cathartic. taking in exceptionally good, live music is also a great luxury. as is having hours at a stretch to practice. i like threads like this! |

Debbie, let me know your favorite Tapas joints! Maura and I used to love going to those places! Obviously, if one were only to look at me, I love food. Have
you eaten at Tamarind on 22nd St? It is Indian, but as if made by the French! Wow... If you eat meat, order the lamb - incredible!

heya, billy--
tapas are the jimmy-jam! i almost like them more than dinner sometimes. they just lend themselves to gabbing and wine. the ones we like are the ten bells, boqueria and sala 1-9. there's a really great and very reasonably priced one on houston street, too, but i forget the name. it's like 4 blocks west of the angelika. drinkies and munchies for 2 were under $60. another fave is casellula on w.52nd btw'n 9th & 10th. it's more of a wine 'n cheese place but is amazing because they have the most awesomely inventive cheese pairings. last time we went we did a flight from mellow to sharp, and one was paired with peanut brittle and honey. mindblowing! highly recommended. http://www.casellula.com/ ten bells doesn't have a huge tapas selection, but the wine is insane. it's frequented by sommeliers from around the globe and run by sommeliers. the wine list goes on forever and the vibe is super laid-back. http://www.thetenbells.com/ there's a moroccan one i want to try, too. i will definitely check out tamarind. i don't do lamb, but i love indian and french, so am down! thanks for the tip. and so much for losing weight! |

A luxury for me at this point is getting to eat more than once per day. That, and finding time to do absolutely nothing.

drumwild--your ship WILL come in. and you won't be at the airport! i promise.
you've been going through a rough pass. i totally empathize coz i have been there. for long stretches. but inevitably, the cycle shifts and things work in your favor. you seem to have a nice network of friends and you DO wind up at some funky-ass places in LA, so i say enjoy that luxury! some of my most cherished moments as a kid was when we were dirt poor. i know it's different as an adult, because we need that stability, but at some point, you'll find yourself working for the man and remembering some of the odder moments you had now. salud, brother! |

There is this Bench In Kalmore park overlooking the Okanagan lake and Kelowna. When I had time, I would go there and sit. On a clear night the moon would
glisten of the the lake combined with the lights of the city and on a sunny morn, just after dawn, Increadible. You know what else was there that we all
enjoy?????????????
A Beautiful SILENCE. I used to go there to get my head together. Ahhhhhhhhhhh. Pure Luxury!!!! |

Word, Scott. That sounds delightful.
Everyone, thanks for sharing. I love having an online community that can be supportive and fun. To end my day, my wife came home, the kid was in bed, and I walked ten minutes to a great club to hear a Hardcore band from Whales. Met up with some old friends and rocked out for a few hours! Tomorrow, morning family time, several hours at my rehearsal studio and the kid at night. In print it makes me sound like a total loafer! I somehow got blessed! Cheers, Maddy |

Sounds Familiar Maddy;
We have children around same age. Daughter woke me up at 6:45, made pancakes, she loves to stir the ingredients and then "taste" the raw batter. Going to the mall, they have a full Thomas the Train set-up there that she asked to go to. Sound check at 2:30 teach from 4 till 6 Play an awards show at 7:30 Pretty easy day |

What Billy said. And.....
- Sunday with the NY Times. House is quiet, a little Bill Evans or Jim Hall on the stereo. - early morning walks with my wife - Spring -- after a long Chicago winter, seeing things become "green" and putting the wool back in the closet is rejuvenating - time with my kids. Dinner out. Walks. A ride to school. A hug. - being able to play music in a band after 20 years away from it - a cold beer, a margarita with salt, dinner with friends.
happy to be playing drums

Cur the band "these are a few of my favorite things"
-tapping a great rhtyhm while walking and then spending the next ten minutes trying to figure out what it was and if I can apply it to the drums -listening to Radiohead at our upstate house in the boonies. (I never listen to them elsewhere - they are the soundtrack to upstate) -One exception to above: Listening to any of the Gil Evans/Miles recordings - especially Sketches of Spain first thing in the morning. -feeling totally alone and almost despondent, but then realizing that cool people such as yourselves are hanging with me here. Big Cheer!! -Having a conversation with Maura that only we can have - sometimes hilarious, sometimes intimate or serious, but always unique and treasured. -luxury is being able to go into what could be a world class studio (mine - and that is, if I did a bit of cleaning up ;D) and just messing around with absolutely no purpose other than ..to mess around. |
