Clearly, things like pedals or other stuff - it picks you, kind of. If it is working for you then what is the problem? DW has a hand up since they go back
such a long way and the quality and durability and clearly has had decades to be tweaked, but all the companies make good stuff at the top of their line. Based on very limited experience (playing Pearl pedals lin the eighties and touring with Horacio El Negro and Mike Mangini a while ago in Australia) it seems to me that the Pearl pedals more easily play faster than most of the others. The DWs are bank of course - but possibly not as "easily" fast. Since speed is not a priority with me, I don't know if DWs can be tweaked to respond like Pearl pedals or Tama. I don't know Tamas - Trick is very fast and lovely in their designn - but the controls confuse some - yet they are truly good folks.! I personally prefer DWs for now. 5000 feels really good to me. Turbo sprocket 5002. perf. The 9000 is really smooth, but not necessarily better than the 5000. The 9000 hi hat though is amazing. It is like buttah. |

The Iron Cobras were definitely faster but I think the beaters that come with the pedals are too light and not giving a good sounding hit to the head. I
notice a huge nice warm sound with the DW 9000 pedals and I really think it's just from the weight of the beaters, I left them at the factory setting and
they feel nice.
I hear that the Iron Cobras recently had a problem with the beater holders cracking, the rep for Tama said that usually what happens is they get over tightened to try and remove the unwanted noise that comes from the cam below the beater attachment...there are two hex screws that need to be tightened to eliminate that rattle sound in case anyone is having that problem. so far I really like the 9000 and I do play the 5000 at church which is a very nice pedal. now I have a 9000 remote hi hat- 5000 hi hat- and 9000 double pedal and they really all feel very nice. all I need are more lessons. today was Bernard Purdie all day long. rick |

I have the DW5000 single (strap) and the DW9000 LE Titanium (4/500) double. Like them both.
I agree that the pedal does pick you. It does come down to preference. Wasn't so certain about the 9000 at first, because it was too slick. Took some adjustment, but I love it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/drumwild/sets/72157622460507824/ Have owned the Iron Cobra (love it!) and would like to have a Trick pedal someday. |
