I have been learning quite from your book and dvds .I had reservations about some of your methods . ( I did them anyway ) and they work. It is pretty cool to
be getting complimments from the bass player.( I was also blown away by your trio. ) When is your group comming to L.A. ?

You will find lots of us here that are no longer spring chickens! And we're still learning too. The process never ends...thank goodness
I love the Books and DVD's too. There's lots of talk on the board here about all kinds of stuff related to the techniques and concepts Billy has made available through the power of media Recently I had a real revalation about Billy's concept of 'mechanisms'. I've been ironing out some
areas I've neglected or avoided in the last 25 years of drumming and one of them has been playing over top of a samba bass drum pattern with high hat on 2
and 4. so a kind of (boom, chick, boom-boom, chick, boom-boom, chick, boom-boom, chick...etc). As I play clave and ride with my hands, I was having trouble
keeping my high hat foot on 2 and 4 consistently. But I did notice that if I just stopped thinking about it it kind of started working. I tried to take a
snapshot (as Billy says) in my mind of what my left foot was doing when it was happening and I noticed that I was doing a rocking heel/toe movement with my
left foot. I was shocked. I have read about heel/toe on the high hat but I never used it... I always played heel up... I didn't think I could use
heel/toe and wouldn't have thought to try it. But here my body was smarter than me. Once I identified that was what worked, I could do it every time.
whew...
So tell us what you've been working on? What did your Bass player say about your playing? We would love to hear! On a side note, Billy's bit a bit busy lately with personal stuff... see here for details... so sometimes it might take a few days for him to pop on. Hey John , thanks for the reply . I had same result . I did not think my body could do it , then one day it just happened like that . My bass player said that
we are soul mates. I have even used the Billy set up thang and it works .

OMG I did not find out about what Billy has been going through untill after I replied to your reply . I can't fathom if my wife or kids got cancer.My

Jeezz then he shot the guy in the foot. Years ago I was Playing for the Drifters In a club called Sylvesteries and we had to play a party for some mob guys and were givin an offer we couldn't refuse . And not to get off the subject but on the last gig . I started to hear differently. I Know that this has to do with the practice playing thing. Initially I got fear ,but then I was being creative( in the moment) . I hope things are good. Louie |

Hey John , It is cool that the left heel toe is working and keeping time with my left heel , also playing different substitutions between hand and foot on the
hi hat I can do ; but to lock in my right heel with a pattern after a bass drum stroke is tricky . My bass drum beater at times will hit the head when I tap my
right heel. I think this has to do with my touch and that I have to mess with it . Have you tried this yet ? Hope things are well ,Louie
