This drummer blazes through this track never seeming to slow down one iota... and the solo is flailed out in an uncharacteristic bombastic style for this drummer. Usually this drummer is succinct, clean and controlled. It is a pure joy to hear this drummer fly around the room like a molten molecule. Good luck... WAI 17 amba who stays up WAY too late...who the hell needs sleep?

Maybe Zawinul on Rhodes? My guess is in!

Our beloved MainelyMan as offered up this guess: Steve Gadd...hmmmm. Close? Nope! I can see why you might think that, Mainely...the sound of the drums could be confused with Steve. B. But again, this drummer is uncharacteristically frenzied on this track or this album for that matter. Ferguson..."think it's Erskine doing his best Tony Williams impersonation." Sorry Ferg, this is not P. Erskine...but yes, I would bet my bottom dollar that this drummer listened to a LOT of Tony... Wonderful! Since I've been investigating this drummers' playing in this genre the more I realize this style of playing IS characteristic of this drummers' playing...please forgive my ignorance! This drummer has played with SO many artists that it is hard to give hints...but here's one: He at one time was a spaced out Pirate! Really! Billy, the more I listen to this CD the more I "get it." WOW...!! I absolutely love the tenor sax player on the CD...he tends to go up and down in repeating intervals...a lot like Roswell Rudd does...and I loved playing music with Ros...not to mention this sax players phrasing is genius!
