That is, missed Amba's last hint:

One of the drummers that Billy mentions in his last post here...but not DeJonette

Well... a lot of people haven't chimed in yet - maybe wait and see if they get it.
Eric Gravatt played with both - Paco Serry probably did), Joe Chambers i think qualifies, DeJohnette, Horacio has probably stuck his four legs in there... could be him too - he would play it that way.

I'm guessing Eric Gravatt. Definitely a favorite of mine. Think he's still a Twin Cities native, though I heard rumors of him moving east. I've seen him play here a few times. In the words of Office Space..."I celebrate the man's entire catalog." I've tried to snap up everything I've seen his name on.

I met Eric Gravatt in around 75 or so when he was touring with Weather Report. We hung out a bit after the gig. He was VERY unhappy with the mental duress coming from Wayne, Joe and Jaco... but he sounded incredible to me. It actually felt really bad back stage, yet the show was incredible - truly!
Eric is such a nice person and great great great drummer. Beautiful K cymbal sound - he played very orchestrally with those guys! I sing is a great record! If you don't have it, get it.

Yes, Eric Gravatt is our WAI 16 drummer...

What a player! Billy stated it quite well with "fearless and relentless..." I have plans to gather more material/music on this drummer...

Thanks to all for playing and a special thank you to Mainely Man for his help...

This is a great way for me to learn more about drummers I am not familiar with...I am ashamed to say I had never heard of Mr. Gravatt...he was the result of me throwing darts over at Drummerworld.com...and what a lucky dart that was!

I have to say that I was amazed that Billy nailed it so quickly.

I was like Amba, I had not heard Eric Gravatt, and I should have known something, especially since I used to listen to so much Weather Report.

Fearless, yes, and I wouldn't want to get in the arc of those drumsticks!

Let's watch Eric playing with the McCoy Tyner Band.

Yep - that's him alright! I see he still has that ride WAAAAAY up there! My neck could never tolerate that! He's put on a few pounds in the last thirty years, but who hasn't ?

yeah... Iand I forgot, it was Miroslav on bass back then. this was before Jaco. doh! Miroslav was an olympic swimmer for Czekoslavakia. (sp?) He had huge hands - pretty handy for a bass player. that piece is on "I Sing..." and it's a live version - totally burning.

There is a whole Live in Tokyo 2-CD concert available (import) that half of I Sing comes from. It's killing! Amazon sells the MP3 version as well...
