Steve Smith wouldn't play those whacky fills in the first tune. The swing in Bahli BYE is just not developed enough to be Steve. I don't know enough about Donati to say yes or no. There's just so many players that play like this now. Where do they all find work? Call me "Clueless In Toronto". McT.

Cuz it sure ain't him...I love your reasoning, yell...very sound thinking...I agree...Smith wouldn't play these type fills...Steve seems a bit more reserved and logical...and yes...some bonus points to yell for naming the bonus tune...but not full round-house points cuz you can't spell...hee hee...proper spelling of the Bonus tune, courtesy of my pal Chris: "Bali Ha'i"....now don't yall go Google ga ga...but yes...yell has provided yall with a clue...and as far as so many drummers who can do this...yes...more than where do they find work...but where the hell do they come from?! Posts: 1755 (07/11/08 08:46:39) Senior Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	There are a few drummers that I know who can play like that, flurry of notes without them being blurry: Simon Phillips (my first guess, some of the ins and outs look a LOT like him) Steve Smith (I don't hear him due to so many bass drum notes) Marvin Smitty Smith (the tone does not look like his, though he could pul that s h i t off) Virgil Donati (although as long as I've heard there is not a single "miss, aim, lose and fix" situation in there) Terry Bozzio (he could, but I don't think he did it) This kind of stuff can be cool, but I would not listen to any of it for a second time, as a rule, but then perhaps I would if it was played differently, since the music is not all that bad. The bottom line about such style of drumming to me, is this: it is distractive, takes more away from the music than contributes to it. I never even wanted to know if I could get to play like that, because surely I never would have, even if that was so. In sex, that has its equivalent in masturbation... Sorry for being harsh, but there are things that I just don't get, so maybe it's me. Oh, and by no means I want to diss the contribution to WAI, I'm just letting off some steam about this particular kind of playing attitude. But then, who am I? Let's see 1.Terry bozzio I can see that! Play's hands and feet over an ostinato like no other..but No not Terry. 2. Simon Philips, also strong use of metric modulation(oh did I say that..learning so much on this forum)..very dramitic style also uses the base drums in context of a fill..good guess but No dice. 3.Marvin Smitty Smith, very versatile player great chops..definitley not his style though..so No to Marvin. Mct...I totally dig Rodney's playing get the album Supernatural (Santana) he plays on track#5 the song is Smooth..tasty bro. However No to Rodney! Great guesses..keep them coming...I feel a clue yes it's....... Splatty toms & more notes than the teachers desk during cold season...Dennis Chambers. I was talking yesterday about his drum sound & how he just goes for it & that's what I'm hearing. I didn't really dig on the drumming on either track & I'm not a DC fan so, it kinda all adds up. But hey, math has never been a strength of mine. McT.

Sorry not Dennis Chambers,but I appreciate all the participation it's great. It's cool if some of you don't dig the drumming on these two tracks.I used them to express this drummers versatility to fit in and display very contrasting styles of his playing. I picked this drummer not only because this is an absolutely killer track but more to openly discuss his contribution to drumming ,his musicality ,professionalism and his chameleon like ability to fit into almost any kind of musical situation. This man's iconoclastic stature among the drumming community is truly undeniable.His invaluable contribution to drumming is only exceeded by the music he in part helps to create. This is great fun,and learning so much...So let's get some more guesses................Peace Chris

But No! for Chad but great guess though..he is one of my faves! I believe Supernatural was a concept album and it had many great guest artist's performing on various tracks. Great album by the way!! Rodney was on these songs ,but I could be wrong, these are the tracks as follows; Wishing it was,Migra and Smooth. Keep those guesses coming.....

I've never heard Gary Novak play this style, but would not be surprised if he did it this well. That guy IS incredible. But I am really clueless here... Could also be Thomas Lang. He's an animal!... Dave?.... again, I've never heard him play this way, but a couple hours of practice and it could be Dave or Gary. Thomas is pretty much known for this kind of thing... Hmmm. I'm going around in circles now. Cue Billy Preston...(will it Go Round In Circles) or maybe "Red Rubber Ball" BY The Circle. Maybe with the names I just threw out, something will click with somebody.

Although I agree with you that they are phenomenal at what they do! No Doubt... However you did play at the same Modern Drummer Festival..as our WAI 13 drummer.and he loves "That Great Gretsch Sound"!!
