Ever since Big Time came out, I have started playing my hi hat forward and not crossing my arms. This is fine when I am on my own kit, but it can be hard at jams when your on someone eles's kit and you can't move the hihat far enough forward because of stand issues. It's gotten to the point where I can't play with my arms crossed. I was at a master class with Carl Albrecth a few years ago and he talked about not setting anying up on your kit too out of the ordinary because...

Hi Billy, when you start the song, it sounds like you are playing brushes, how did you make that change to sticks so nice, you didnt lose a beat, I snuck in a segment from your Voices dvd, where your guests were taking turns on the ride cymbal, when playing jazz, what do you look for in a ride cymbal? Bearing Edge (Referrals?) and Massive Snare Head Failure!!!

I'm SO heart-broken.

Have a Premier Genista kit, probably from the early 90s, with matching snare.

Decided to pick up new heads all the way around, so went with Evans. For the snare, got the EC2. But something was wrong with the head. The rim of the head was eeking past the triple-flange hoop!!

Took it back to GC and left the head on the snare so they could see first-hand what happened. They see it and cannot believe it. They take the defective head off and...

Rudiments? Help!!

Okay here is another maybe very dumb question but here goes...

Rudiments- what is the purpose for a drum set player to learn them and how are they applied...

I know Billy mentions them in his video (para diddle diddle) , I was learning them from the Vic Firth chart where 40 are listed.

I also know they are used in Drum line playing on the snare.

Stick control has rudiments in it....I am wondering if my focus on playing rudiments is taking away any...

aaroncushing asked me to do a review of my ddrum kit, but 1st-just wanted to say that I had a rod-reduction re: aarons topic on "inadequate rods".

I picked this kit up for $350 w/cymbals & hardware including throne, Sabian cymbals (18", 16",hi hats). I already had a Ludwig piccolo snare
that is main snare, with the ddrums snare (deeper) & a Pearl chrome snare. So, the set up is: Big Bass drum, 2 mounted toms, 3 snare drums,

Its been a while since i have been able to post here. But something happend that I had to post about.

I am a father of two...a 5 year old girl and a 1 year old boy.

The other night my son was out of control...just walking around the house scream'n and what not. He has shown some intrest in drumming when ever i practice. Loves to wildly fling sticks around sometimes actually hitting the practice pad. Anyway, i thought i would put vocies in my head in and see...

I love this guy. He must be the most percussive singer - ever. He's got better time than most drummers!

If you ever get into his other early songs, the drumming is soo inventive as well!
The drummer on this is Gerry Conway, who seems to be enjoying himself - alot! I know I would if I had that gig!

Someday, somebody else will cover this song and have a hit record.

I was in college, 29 years ago, working on a group project for a communications class.

Seems like a minute ago.

We had the game on (Monday Night Football) and heard Howard Cosell announce that John had been shot.

It was like the room went fuzzy and everything tilted, no one I was with could believe what they were hearing.

I hope he has found some of the peace he was striving for in the earthly realm.

I thought I had problems with Windows 7!

Spent today trying to repair an 8000 (dollar) generator for relatives, the thing has never worked right since day one.

It was low on oil, but then you had to press a bunch of buttons to get it to clear, a real pain.

It starts automatically (when it works) when the power goes out, and it looks like it may happen depending on the severity of the storm passing through tomorrow.

Man, I hate when this happens.

I was reading the Jan. issue of MD this morning and came across a letter responding to an article in the previous issue. MD has (in my opinion) taken a page from DRUM! and started doing top 10 lists from drummers, advice, things of that nature. The drummer in question was Mark O'Connell who advised that aspiring drummers skip their worst subject in school in favor of practice. The reader properly lambasted O'Connell saying that it was some of the most irresponsible...
